Theory without practice is sterile.
Practice without theory is blind.
We do not reject academic tradition — we put it to work.
IHRI operates at the intersection of inquiry and impact. We serve a global community of health systems, high-reliability organisations, and practitioner-scholars, providing the research capacity required to strengthen health systems and advance planetary resilience.
From Practice to Research
Established as an elite Higher Education Institution, IHRI stands on a formidable foundation: a fifty-year legacy in Work-Based Learning (WBL) and executive education.
Our mission is to advance global resilience. We were born from the realisation that the world's most severe systemic challenges — in healthcare delivery, biosecurity, and resource resilience — cannot be solved in traditional academic silos. They require Practitioner-Scholars: leaders who understand the failure points of a system because they have led it.
The Dual-Pillar Framework
We function as a research engine, translating real-world operational experience into peer-reviewed evidence through two distinct, yet complementary, institutional pillars.
Academic Excellence
For individual healthcare leaders, IHRI is a catalyst for professional and intellectual development. Through our accredited Doctor of Health Science (DHS) programme, we provide the rigorous academic framework necessary for practitioners to translate their professional experience into actionable, evidence-based research and achieve an MQF/EQF Level 8 qualification.
Applied Research
For health systems and global agencies, IHRI is an independent applied research partner. Through our specialised Research Nodes, we form collaborative consortia to investigate systemic challenges in biosecurity, frontline resilience, complex systems, and global health — producing evidence that informs practice and policy.
"A Global Community of Effective Decision-Making."
IHRI unites distinguished academics who also serve as actively engaged Policy Architects, Health System Directors, and Clinical Leaders.
European Governance
The International Health Research Institute (IHRI) operates under the European Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance (ESG 2015). Our qualifications are portable and recognised globally under the Lisbon Recognition Convention.
